When we released our Automation Survey last year, we asked our survey takers “What would prevent you from automating more tests?” and an overwhelmingly majority replied “Not enough technical skill to build more successful automation”. If you find that your team is in this situation, you’re not alone.
Software Testing and Quality Assurance programs need serious time and investment, and the foundation of any good test automation program is having a team with the right skills mix. The good news is, there are lots of resources out there to help you. Our own LogiGear Magazine is filled with tips and tricks to help your teams get the training they need.
There are also a lot of conferences out there that are geared towards education. STPCon-Fall is one of these conferences. The Software Test Professionals Conference is the leading event where test leadership, management and strategy converge. The hottest topics in the industry are covered including Agile testing, performance testing, Test Automation, mobile application testing, and test team leadership and management. Looking to get certified? Attendees can take the ISTQB Certification at the end of the conference. If you’re looking to freshen up your skills set, then you’re in luck. Our own training and consulting department head, Michael Hackett, is speaking at STPCon-Fall in Arlington, VA in October and has three tracks:
- Today’s Regression Automation Challenge for CI/CD
- Test Case Design Intensive—Basics
- Test Case Design Intensive—Advanced
These testing courses are designed for the beginner and advanced practitioner alike. In Today’s Regression Automation Challenge for CI/CD attendees will leave with a better understanding of how to define goals for automated regression, how to get started with automation, as well as the software testing methods and tools needed to help focus their automation. Attendees will also learn how to make smarter automation choices, as well as how to apply the goals of Continuous Delivery to their Continuous Testing Plan.
It is an essential part of collaboration that having great test authors skills across the team is key to successful and fast testing for CD/DevOps.In the workshop, Test Case Design Intensive—Basics, attendees will learn the differences between good and bad test cases, and the contents of a good test. Attendees will learn the benefits of structure and standards for team communication and sharing. There will be a few hands-on practices on writing test cases. This workshop essentially gives someone who has never focused on the mechanics of test case writing the tools to write Lean, effective tests.
For those that aren’t new to authoring test cases, there is the track Test Case Design Intensive—Advanced, which gives someone with all the basic knowledge a way to optimize and streamline test case authoring. In this workshop, attendees will learn some more sophisticated methods to author tests. They will do exercises on structuring and organizing test cases into suites and modules. There will also be a hands-on practice for writing test cases, as well as the unique case of workflow, scenario or path testing. Attendees are encouraged to attend both the basic and advanced workshop alike.
If you’re interested in learning more about the conference, then you can visit STPCon-Fall.com. We also have a special discount code which can be applied for 10% of all packages except the ISTQB certification—to receive this code, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Can’t attend the conference? We’ve got you covered there too. From Boston to Beijing and everywhere in between LogiGear university courses have been taught everywhere and can be taught on-site, remotely and customized to your requirements. LogiGear has a full selection of testing courses for a variety of needs: From software testing methodologies, to defining software testing best practices and concepts our corporate training program will equip your test team to effectively test increasingly complex software applications in the DevOps era.
